Our Library was established in 1922 as part of the Government Service of Culture and Education. Starting December 1997 the library became a foundation. We still are the one and only public library of Curaçao. The Library at Scharloo is the main building of the Curacao Public Library Foundation (FBPK). The Library also has a branch at Barber and 2 bookmobiles that serve 33 areas in the island.

The Library is a public space. There are books, magazines, newspapers, works of reference, videos and language courses. All these materials of the library can be used free of charge, but if you want to take home books, videos or any other material, you should register for membership.
To consult any material you need a sédula/ID.

An online catalogue is available to everyone, but library members get their own profile with which they can see what they have lent previously and when books are due etc.

Registration and membership
To borrow books you need a valid library pass. The pass is free up to the age of 17. Young adults up to 24 and individuals aged 60 and older are granted a discount. Tourists/trainees on a temporary stay in the island pay a membership fee and a deposit per person.
